The queen is back!
If Hema Malini was considered as Bollywood’s Dream Girl, Sandalwood too has one — Kanasina Rani (which means Dream Queen) — Malashree is celebrating 25 years in the film industry. The actress who literally ruled the industry in the 90s has acted in more than 90 films and is back with another much-anticipated release Ganga, slated for release during Dasara. She created a niche for herself during the peak of her acting career while choosing various shades of roles, portraying the lead heroine.
After her debut Nanjundi Kalyana alongside Raghavendra Rajkumar, Malashree became an instant star as producers queued up at her doorstep with call sheets. At times when even the top heroines of her time were paid not more than Rs 2 lakh, this doyenne of Sandalwood was paid at least '9 lakh for a film, and the distribution of her films would usually be sold out on the mahurat day itself. Ganga directed by Om Saiprakash is produced by her husband Ramu who has so far produced and distributed at least 35 films. She is truly Sandalwood’s Dream Girl!
