Isro to launch five US satellites
India contracted to launch 23 satellites of foreign countries
Nellore: Isro will be launching five small US satellites before 2016. The Antrix Corporation – ISRO’s commercial arm – has signed deals with US parties to launch nine small satellites, out of which four were launched on Monday along with ASTROSAT, India’s first space observatory.
According to an official of Antrix Corporation, India has been contracted to launch 23 satellites of foreign countries soon. Among these, two will be launched by two separate rockets while the remaining 21 satellites will piggyback on bigger Indian satellites.
Addressing the media after the successful launch of ASTROSAT at Shar on Monday, ISRO chairman A.S. Kiran Kumar said things were changing with the US. “We are having more and more interactions with the US,” he added.
Speaking about forthcoming rocket launches, he said the next launch by the polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV) would be a commercial one. India would be launching a communication satellite, GSAT-15, using an Ariane rocket this November and three navigation satellites would be launched between January and March 2016.
