Hyderabad: The Ganesh immersion procession in the city ended at about 10.30 pm on Monday with the immersion of the Khairatabad Ganesh idol at Hussainsagar.
The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti said about 27,000 idols were immersed in Hussainsagar and another 27,000 in other lakes of the city.
As per the records, around 70 per cent of the immersions took place on Monday. The mammoth idol took nearly 6.5 hours to reach the immersion point, leaving the pandal at 1.30 pm on Monday and reaching at about 9 pm.
The idol was supposed to have moved on Sunday night like in the previous years, but was delayed for hours as the procession started late.
The HMDA said it had removed 2,000 metric tons of idol debris from the lake on Day 1, and the GHMC 6,000 tons of festival waste over two days.
Officials said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao supervised the immersion procession from the camp office and was happy over its smooth conduct.
