You need to transform into the character you play: Atharvaa
The variety of roles he’s doing is keeping him on cloud nine
Atharvaa Murali seems to be on a roll these days. The actor, whose latest release was Chandiveeran, is excited about his upcoming releases Eeti, Kanithan and an untitled village-based flick with Raj Mohan. The variety of roles he’s doing is keeping him on cloud nine! He shares excitedly, “In Eeti, I play the role of a hurdler and the storyline is completely centred on this particular sport.” Apparently, he flashes some of his well-toned physique in this film. He says, “That character sounded quite interesting when I heard the script. The role was quite challenging because I had to get up early and get trained in 110 m hurdles. I also had to tone my body like an athlete. I think I have done justice to the character. Eeti is a visually impressive film with a unique storyline. It is about a hurdler, who comes to Chennai from Thanjavur. His life, his love and the problems he faces, forms the crux of the story.”
So, is he also bitten by the six-pack bug like other heroes in Kollywood? “It’s quite important that you transform in to the character you are playing because I am very particular about the physical appearance for my role in the film. I didn’t develop a six-pack abs to join the list of actors who have done it. I wanted to always have a lean body but I eventually ended up having six packs. I prepared for a year, getting up at 4 am everyday and working out for two hours before heading to shoots. Fitness has become part of my lifestyle,” he says and adds, he worked out for months to achieve what he wanted and he’s happy with the outcome. For Atharvaa, films happened ‘accidentally’ and initially, he he had aims of becoming a pilot. “When I was young, I wanted to be a pilot, but slowly things changed. I have always loved watching movies but honestly, I could never visualise myself in them,” he smiles.
So, does it mean that he never wanted to be an actor? “No, I was obsessed with films but I wasn’t just sure if I would be able to do it myself. When I decided to stand in front of the camera, I made sure I equipped myself completely in acting,” he says. Ask him how does life has changed after Bala’s Paradesi? “It has given me more confidence that I can do better films. When I choose a script that has to interest me and give a certain vibration and spark. Then I push myself hard to give it my all. Say, if I am doing two village-based scripts, the next film that I do will be urban-based. I balance things completely,” he concludes.
