Procession started late for namaz
Police said the delay did not affect the movement of processions from the north
Hyderabad: Processions from the old city started late as the Balapur Ganesha began moving 90 minutes behind schedule.
The Ganesh Utsav Committee conducted the auction of the Balapur laddu late and committee members said that it was done to avoid the Zohar Namaz at mosques along the route, especially at Macca Masjid.
Karodimal Narsing Puria, vice-president of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, said, “Earlier we used to finish the auction of the laddu at Balapur by 7.30-8 am and start the procession. Near Shah Ali Banda the procession used to slow down completely and move at a snail’s pace. By the time we reached Charminar it used to be around 1:30 pm when afternoon prayers are conducted at mosques and the procession used to be halted. To avoid these we decided to conduct auction late so that by the time we reach Charminar the afternoon prayers are over and the procession of Balapur Ganesh is not halted.”
Asked if the same plan will be implemented next year, he said, “We will sit with the government authorities and decide.”
Police said the delay did not affect the movement of processions from the north, west and eastern parts of the city since they had already started moving in the morning.
“We hope to move all the processions from the old city as fast as possible without much halts,” said Hyderabad Commissioner of Police M. Mahender Reddy.
Senior police officials said efforts have been taken up to ensure the last procession at Charminar before 10 pm.
