Man dies in Ganesh fest shed in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A 31-year-old devotee who came to visit Khairatabad Ganesh collapsed and died near the statue on Sunday. Meanwhile, a local Congress activist suffered a severe head injury after a rod fell from the roof of the shed, while workers were dismantling the roof before the procession began. In another incident, the police recovered the body of a 27-year-old labourer from the Hussainsagar.
P. Surender, a native of Mulug mandal in Medak district was working in MVR Channel. He came to Hyderabad on Sunday morning to visit Khairatabad Ganesh and was carrying the ID card of MVR Channel. As he was carrying the card he pretended to be a media person and skipped the visitors queue. At around 3 pm he suddenly collapsed with face downwards. “There was bleeding from his nose. There were no other injuries. He might have suffered a cardiac arrest. We will know the exact reason after the PME,” said inspector Mohan.
He was rushed immediately to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile, Mahender, a local Congress activist, who was standing near the shed when workers were dismantling the shed to make way for the immersion process was injured when one of the rods accidentally fell on him causing a severe head injury. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors placed nine stitches on his head. He was discharged from hospital and is out of danger.
At Hussainsagar, police recovered the body of a 27-year-old labourer on Sunday morning. He was identified as Srinivas, a resident of the lower tank bund area.
Since three days he was working in the tank bund area helping devotees carrying small idols with the immersion. He was doing it voluntarily and accepted money from public. “He might have fallen accidentally in the lake on Saturday night. We did not see any foul play,” said Ramgopalpet inspector Waheeduddin.
His body was found floating in the lake, where crane No: 20 was located. Workers engaged in immersion work saw the body and alerted the police. The body was removed for postmortem. The case is under investigation.
