Chennai: Taking the Mickey out of the Tamil Nadu police, Yuvaraj, the prime suspect wanted in connection with the murder of a Dalit engineering student in June in Nammakal district, released a 51 minute audio via WhatsApp on Sunday, In it, he claimed that R Vishnupriya, DSP, Thiruchengode, who committed suicide on Sept. 18, took the extreme step because of harassment from higher officials. Vishnupriya was the investigating officer in the murder of Dalit youth Gokul Raj.
Yuvaraj is the founder of Dheran Chinamalai Peravai, a caste Hindu outfit in Namakkal and cited as prime suspect in the murder of V Gokul Raj, 21, a native of Salem, who was reportedly in love with an upper class Hindu girl. Gokul Raj’s body was found on a railway track on June 24 at Pallipalayam in Namakkal district.
Throughout his cleverly crafted speech, Yuvaraj never pleads innocence in the murder case of Gokul Raj, but keeps squarely blaming senior police officials, including west zone IG, Namakkkal SP, one ADSP and a DSP for the death of Vishnupriya.
When contacted, K. Shankar West Zone IG told this newspaper that he has no comment on the development. “Yuvaraj is a wanted fugitive who is on the run. TN police will catch him soon,” he said.
Referring to Gokul Raj case, Yuvaraj says he was ready to face the case but vows to fight against officials who were responsible for the death of Vishnupriya. “She was a straight forward honest official. She even counseled my wife who was on the verge of suicide because of harassment from other police officials. If such an officer is forced to commit suicide, think of the kind of pressure she was under,” Yuvaraj says.
In an attached audio file in which he is in conversation with Vishnupriya, the officer asks him to surrender as early as possible. When he indicates that the police are arresting innocent people in connection with the Gokul Raj murder case and booking them under goondas act, she even offers to squash the goondas act slapped against six people but urges him to surrender. He says that the case was not in her hand anymore. Vishnupriya tells him that she was facing tremendous pressure in the case and it was better if he surrenders.
