4 drown in Tirupati pond

TIRUPATI: Four youth, all aged about 19 years, drowned in one of the ponds situated upstream of the famous Kapilatheertham waterfall near Tirupati when a sudden gush of flood water caught them unawares.
The victims, all aged about 19 years, were among a group of friends from Mangalam and Chandrasekhar Reddy Colony in Korlagunta who were bathing in the pond. Alipiri circle inspector Srinivas said the youth had gone to the pond at about 3.30 pm. Due to heavy rains in the hills, a large quantity of water swamped the pond and the four drowned. The bodies fell over the waterfall, Mr Srinivas said.
The police officer said the four were might have been in the third pond ahead of the waterfall when tragedy struck. The police sent the bodies for autopsy to the Ruia hospital after registered a case. Home minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa ordered the district administration to inquire into the incident. TTD executive officer D. Sambasiva Rao, chairman Chadalawada Krishnamurthy, RDO Veerabramham, DSP Ravi Sankar Reddy rushed to the spot and gathered the information about the incident.
