Rs 45,000 crore mining scam hits Rajasthan

Congress leaders alleged that the Raje government violated guidelines issued on Oct. 30

Jaipur: Keeping up its attack on Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, the Congress once again demanded her resignation after the mining scam came to the fore.

Demanding a CBI probe into the scam, Congress leader Sachin Pilot linked her with recent bribery scam in the mining department claiming that her government allotted 653 mines equivalent to 22085.81 hectares in less than three months on first-come-first-served basis thus causing a loss of Rs 45,000 crore to the exchequer.

“The allotment of mines was in defiance of Supreme Court judgment; it overruled own party’s government at the Centre, which asked it to wait till a policy is formulated and ignored the statutory obligation of allocation of mines only through auction,” Mr Pilot said.

Further, the Congress leaders alleged that the Raje government violated guidelines issued on October 30 by not taking prior approval of the government of India before issuing LOIs for 653 prospecting mining leases.

Meanwhile, the BJP slammed the Congress saying that the auction was started during Congress tenure and Ms Raje had no role to play in it.
