Quarry owners’ strike hits Kochi metro work
According to Narayanan since the workers are idling they may advance their plans to go to their native places for the Pooja festiva
Kochi: The strike by quarry owners has hit work of Kochi Metro Rail Ltd with 4,000 out of the 6,000 workers engaged by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the agency executing the project remaining idle for the past few days.
If the present situation continues the remaining 2,000 workers will also be rendered idle, DMRC spokesman P Narayanan said on Thursday.
The stock available for civil work will last only for one or two days and then work will come to grinding halt if supply is not forthcoming immediately, he said.
“In case the quarry strike continues, it is apprehended that the project will miss the target date of June 2016”, he said.
According to Narayanan since the workers are idling they may advance their plans to go to their native places for the Pooja festival.
‘Once workers return to their native places, they may come back only after two months, thereby precious time of the project will be lost”, he said.
