PMO monitoring Army graft case
New Delhi: Even as speculation is rife about certain allegations of corruption against a senior Army officer that have already been denied by the Army recently as “false and baseless”, the government is looking into the issue, top sources said on Thursday, amid indications that no formal inquiry has been ordered so far on the grounds that there has to be something substantial to move ahead.
According to news agency reports, top sources said the Prime Minister’s Office is also monitoring the issue after widespread speculation regarding the allegations of corruption involving the senior Army officer.
Though the ministry of defence has apparently not instituted a formal inquiry into the matter so far, defence minister Manohar Parrikar is looking into it, with sources indicating that the future course of action in the case will only be decided once Army chief Gen. Dalbir Singh Suhag returns soon after his visit to Russia.
Sources said Mr Parrikar is concerned about the allegations against the officer who is retiring soon but pointed out that there has to be something substantial to move ahead. Mr Parrikar has also apparently met MEA and former Army chief Gen. (retd.) V.K. Singh who had recently flagged his concerns on social media platform Twitter.
