Hyderabad: Following a DC report on 6,000 illegal hoardings in the GHMC area, the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Wednesday trapped a GHMC line inspector for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 to allow a hoarding without permission on Nagarjuna Circle Road, Banjara Hills .
The lineman had demanded Rs 20,000 every month as rent for the hoarding. Sources said that the amount depends on the area and size of the hoarding. There are close to 6,000 unauthorised hoardings in Greater Hyderabad.
Ravi Kumar, DSP, Hyderabad said, “On September 3, the article on Illegal hoardings in GHMC areas was published. Since then the team was on the job.”
On September 23, GHMC line inspector Shiv Anand, from the advertising wing, central zone, was trapped by the ACB team while accepting Rs 10,000 bribe from one Raj Kumar for allowing installation of a hoarding at Nargarjuna Circle, Road Number 1, Banjara Hills, he said adding the same hoarding had been removed by inspectors two months ago as the lease period was over
A scam of over Rs 500 crore has been unearthed in the advertisement wing of the GHMC.
Corporation data states there are 2,400 permitted hoardings in the city that generate revenue of Rs 100 crore.
However, there are more than 6,000 hoardings in Greater Hyderabad and the income should exceed Rs 500 crore, but there is no record of the money.
