Chennai: With at least two or three cases of dengue reported across the State on a daily basis, health department officials have intensified measures to curb the outbreak of the vector-borne disease.
“It is the biggest issue which is keeping us busy,” said a senior official of the health department. Officials say that dengue cases have gone down considerably since January of this year. “It is not sporadic. But, we are administering proper care and reducing instances of death. Unlike in January this year, when Virudhunagar district was hit the worst with many cases reported, we have seen a considerable decline,” an official said.

On Wednesday, there was a suspected case of dengue affecting a seven-year-old boy from Pammal. He showed symptoms of the disease. “Our team was doing a sweep of residential colonies to find out if anyone had symptoms of dengue. That was when we found that this boy had severe fever over the past two days,” the official said.
The child was immediately referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital from where, after conducting tests to ascertain his condition, he was shifted to the Institute of Child Health at Egmore to closely monitor his health.
