Kotilingala ghat to be tourism hub
Supply of drinking water would also be set right
Rajahmundry: The civic authorities have come up with grand plans to promote tourism and improve amenities in Rajahmundry in a big way. The municipal corporation authorities are planning to develop the longest bathing ghat in the country, Kotilingala ghat, spread over ab-out 1.2 km on Godavari river as a tourism hub by developing food courts and providing amusement and recreational facilities.
Approach roads to the ghat and parking lots for vehicles will also be developed. On beautification of the city with nursery pla-nts, the civic authorities say that the contracting agency which had taken up beautification of the city during the Godavari Pushkaralu would take up their maintenance for a year.
Moreover, the authorities intend to appoint two horticulture officers to take care of promotion and maintenance of greenery in the city. As the state government has set up Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation Limited recently, it has prepared a panel of horticulture officers and they can be roped in through the APUGBCL to recruit two horticulture officers for municipal corporation on adhoc basis and the civic authorities even intend to spend about Rs 6 to Rs 6.5 lakh to pay wages to them per annum. They would seek the permission of the standing committee to the corporation council to go ahead with the proposal.
About 5,000 tube lights would be bought at a cost of Rs 2.5 lakh for providing street lighting. An underground drainage at a cost of Rs 800 crore is proposed. Supply of drinking water would also be set right. With regard to maintenance of sanitation, they plan to procure Dumper Bins shortly.
Municipal commissioner in-charge P. Sakala Reddy said, “We are making all efforts to promote tourism and provide better amenities. We appeal to the people to cooperate in maintenance of sanitation.”
