Apologise if you are proven wrong, Karunanidhi tells Jayalalithaa
If she wants me to implead in the case to prove this, I am ready, Karunanidhi said
Chennai: Accepting Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s challenge, DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday wondered if she (CM) would tender an apology if the Madras high court agrees that he had only cited newspaper reports about the judge’s observations.
Accusing Jayalalithaa of misrepresenting facts and misquoting him in the Assembly, Karunanidhi again referred to the HC judge’s “no confidence in the state police” observation and reiterated that he had only quoted the judges, as was reported by the media.
“If she wants me to implead in the case to prove this, I am ready,” Karunanidhi said in a statement, asking Chief Minister Jayalalithaa if she was prepared to tender an apology if the court agrees and vindicates his stand.
Citing another media report on the September 15 observation of the HC on declaring the campuses of the Madras high court and its bench in Madurai as “high security zones and provide security cover by the CISF”, the DMK president asked, “Will the CM who challenged me care to at least explain if this statement (of the court) is a certification (of the functioning) of the state and its police?”
