Amendment in law will hold builders, promoters responsible: Jayachandra
At the moment, onus is on the purchasers
Bengaluru: Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr T B Jayachandra has said that the long awaited amendment to Karnataka Apartment Ownership Act 1972 and Karnataka Ownership Flats (regulation of promotion of construction, sale, management and transfer) Act of 1972 would be soon be a reality.
The government had planned to merge both the laws and make the builder and promoters of the apartment accountable for any lapses, violation of norms and land disputes. At the moment, onus is on the purchasers, while builders go scot free after handing over the maintenance of the apartment.
Mr Jayachandra said that the government had planned to move the amendment bill during budget session itself. However, it realised that even Union government was mooting a similar law. So, it waited awhile and also sent the draft bill to the Center. The Center has agreed to the proposal. Now, the State government has to decide whether the bill has to be on the lines of Central law or has to bring in some changes to that. Soon, it would be tabled in the Assembly session, he said.
RAGHAVESHWARA SEER:
Reacting to the comment made by National Women Commission Chairperson Mrs Lalitha Kumara mangalam that the State government was not serious in taking action against Ramacha ndrapura Seer Sri Ragha veshwara Bharathi, who is facing rape charges from his disciples, Mr Jayachandra replied negatively. There is no question of government trying to protect the seer. The CID is investigating the issue and directly reporting to the Court. The CID will soon complete the investigation and file charge sheet against him. We also want the investigation completed as soon as possible and Mrs Kumaramangalam had met me last time,'' he added.
