Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s wife cremated
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The last rites of Sunanda, the wife of veteran film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, were held at Santhikavadam, Thycaud, on Wednesday.
Sunanda, who had been undergoing treatment for cancer for the last three years, died at a private hospital in Mumbai on the night of September 22. She was 66.
Her body was brought from Mumbai on Wednesday to the house in Aakkulam here where she lived with her husband. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan arrived at the home to pay their last respects.
Poet Sugathakumari, film personalities Madhu, Shaji N Karun, Shayamaprasad, Sunny Joseph and Beena Paul also paid their last respects at home.
The last rites were performed by grandson Tashi Dorje. Actor Sarada, who was the heroine of Adoor’s debut feature, was present at Thycaud.
CPM leader M A Baby, Sivankutty, and ADGP Rishiraj Singh were also at the crematorium. Sunanda is survived by her husband, daughter Aswati Dorje.
