CRPF jawan commits suicide at paramilitary camp in Chhattisgarh

He ended his life by shooting himself with his service rifle late last night

Raipur: A CRPF jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon at the paramilitary camp in Chhattisgarh's Gariyaband district.

The constable Santosh Kumar Singh (26) belonging to 211th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) ended his life by shooting himself with his service rifle late last night, Gariyaband Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) L David said on Thursday.

The jawan was on security duty at the camp of his battalion located under Shobha police station, he added.

When his colleagues heard the gunshot, they rushed to the place and found Singh lying in a pool of blood.

Immediately, he was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead, the ASP said. The jawan was a native of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh.

The exact reason for taking the extreme step is yet to be ascertained, he said.

A case has been registered in this connection, he said, adding further probe is on.
