Bengaluru: Retired police officer’s murder case cracked
BENGALURU: The arrest of two notorious habitual offenders by Devanahalli police helped them crack the murder of a retired police officer, which had reportedly taken place on August 23.
The arrested have been identified as Mallesha S.A., 29, a resident of Sompura Village and Narsimha Murthym, 19, a resident of Madhugiri Taluk. They were recently arrested on the charges of vehicle theft by the Devanahalli police, after they tried to dodge the police while carrying out vehicle checks.
However, during the interrogation, the two offenders confessed to murdering a retired assistant reserve sub-inspector Lanka Hanumaiah. Police have also seized a stolen scooter, worth around Rs 35,000. Mallesha has several cases of robbery, assault and attempt to murder cases registered against him in Tumakuru and Chikkaballapur police stations, Narsimha Murthy has cases of robbery and vehicle theft registered against him in Madhugiri.
Lanka Hanumaiah, who retired around six years ago as assistant reserve police sub-inspector, City Armed Reserve (south) Gopamnahalli Village. On August 23, Mallesha along with his associate attacked Hanumaiah. Mallesha wanted to rob Hanumaiah and closely studied his movements.
