UDF’s pre-poll meet on October 6
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF has sounded the bugle for the local body elections and will hold a convention in Kochi on October 6 which will be inaugurated by senior Congress leader A. K. Antony.
The UDF high-power meeting here on Tuesday urged the Congress leadership to face the elections unitedly. It also decided to give the UDF chairman post of Kozhikode district to the JD (U) and assured it that the sub-committee report on the poll debacle in the Palakkad Lok Sabha constituency was being considered.
The election manifesto would be finalised at the Kochi convention. The meeting decided not to field rebel Congress candidates in the seats allocated for the allies. Bilateral talks will be held with the allies before the convention.
“The UDF has decided not to take any more allies into the front and there is no plan to support the RMP. Talks will be held with leaders belonging to the lower strata of the party. The UDF leadership will intervene in case of row over seat-sharing at the district level,” said Mr P. P. Thankachan, UDF convener.
KPCC vice-president M. M. Hassan has been entrusted to publicise the achievements of the UDF government. District conventions would be completed by September 30.
The allies expressed happiness over the way the government handled the Munnar issue. They also urged the KPCC leadership to settle the differences in the Congress.
