Telangana, Andhra Pradesh to pay 1,200 staff

The interim order of the High Court is a setback to the Telangana government

Hyderabad: In a huge relief to 1,200 electricity employees who had been deprived of salaries since April this year, the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to clear their dues within four weeks.

The interim order of the High Court is a setback to the Telangana government as it will have to bear 48 per cent of their salaries and also allow them to continue till disposal of their petitions.

Interestingly, the HC ordered that the salaries of the aggrieved employees be borne by both the state government and not by their power utilities like the Transmission Corporation, GENCO, or the power distribution companies.

A division bench comprising Justices R. Subhash Reddy and A. Shankar Narayana granted the interim order while dealing with petitions by employees of TS Power Generation Corporation and TS State Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd (TSSPDCL).
