Supreme Court snubs Medical Council of India for bid to stop admissions

The court refused to stay the decision of the High Court order in this regard

KOCHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the appeal filed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) against the decision of the Kerala High Court to allow three private medical colleges in the state to admit to MBBS courses this year. The court refused to stay the decision of the High Court order in this regard.

The three colleges are Mount Zion, Pathanamthitta, P K Das Palakkad and DM Wayanad. The Medical Council which did not sanction admission in the colleges this year approached the Supreme Court seeking to cancel the decision of the High Court sanctioning the same on a petition filed by the three medical colleges.

While considering the petition, the SC came down heavily on the MCI saying its conduct was ridiculous and suspicious.

It also rejected the contention of the MCI that to secure the future of the students, the admissions need to be cancelled.

The court said the MCI need not worry about the future of the students who pay for their education.
