Salem: 3,000 rotten eggs supplied to hotels, bakeries seized
Salem: About 3,000 rotten eggs which were transported from Namakkal for being supplied to various bakeries and eateries in Salem were seized on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off from egg traders, the food safety officer of Salem, T.Anuradha stopped a carriage auto carrying eggs and on inspection they were all found to be rotten. The eggs were being transported from Namakkal to Salem for being supplied to various bakeries and eateries, the food safety officer said. “It is harmful to eat cakes and pastries made of rotten eggs, It will cause stomach upset, diarrohea, vomitting and intestinal complications.”
Bakeries and hoteliers have been warned not to buy the rotten eggs sold at cheap rates.
Stringent action will be taken against bakeries which are found to use rotten eggs to make their baked items, she said.
Recently, a group of egg traders lodged a complaint with the food safety officer that rotten eggs were being supplied at cheap rates to bakeries and hotels.
Following the complaint, the food safety officer has been conducting inspections. The carriage auto transporting the rotten eggs has been seized and handed over to the police department.
