THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: They say marriages are made in heaven. But this one was made at the sub-registrar's office at East Fort and later at AKG Hall and that too during the traditionally inauspicious 'rahu kalam' on Tuesday. It was also a marriage without the usual pomp and show associated with the weddings of VIP brats.
CPM politburo member M A Baby kept his son Ashok Nelson Baby’s marriage to Sanidha Antony a simple affair. But for the presence of VVIPs from various walks of life, the entire marriage ceremony was low profile.
After the registration of marriage at the Fort Sub Registrar’s office in the morning which was attended by close relatives, the formal wedding took place at the AKG Hall in the afternoon.
Noted playback singer K J Yesudas and mridangam maestro Umayalpuram Sivaraman handed over garlands to the couple which they exchanged in the presence of jam packed hall, to mark the brief marriage ceremony.
The CPM leader chose to solemnise the marriage of his son during Rahu Kalam to send out a strong message against the growing superstition in the society.
Ashok son of Baby and Betty Louis Baby is one of the top guitarist of the famous band Thaikudam Brige while Sanidha is the daughter of Antony and Annamma of Changanassery, is a pharmacy graduate.
After the ceremony the guests were treated to a simple refreshment which included organic farm products like tapioca, yam, colocasia, tea, coffee, parippu vada and traditional Kerala snacks. The entire catering was handled by women self help group Kudumbasree members.
Baby’s decision was in line with party’s rectification policy and state plenum’s recommendations which called upon all party men especially leaders to eschew all un-communist like virtues, extravagant life style and pomp and show during marriages.
