Kids plant saplings to mark PM’s birthday

COIMBATORE: Little children of B.V. public school have planted over 1,065 tree saplings along the Sundarapuram road to mark the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 65th birthday

Around 450 students studying from pre-KG to Class five in B.V. public school on Sundrapuram-Madhukarai road planted 1,065 saplings for about two kms along the roadside of Sundarapuram-Madhukarai.

To mark the PM’s birthday, 1,065 saplings have been planted, said K.Vasantha Rajan, trustee of the school. “Just planting saplings will not help conserve nature. The plants have to be tended well and protected with guards,” he added. Each tree guard will display a flex board with the picture of the student who is taking care of the plant, he said.

Every day, each student will bring an extra bottle of water for their plant. "We got the parents' approval for it." More than 10 species of trees, including fruit plants which will attract birds, have been planted. The forest department provided the saplings free of cost to the school.
