Congress MLAs demand Kishta Reddy's kin be elected unopposed in bypoll
Hyderabad: Congress MLAs in Telangana on Wednesday said a family member of sitting party legislator from Narayankhed P Kishta Reddy, who passed away recently, be elected unopposed in the bypoll.
Senior Congress MLA J Geeta Reddy mooted the proposal while speaking on a condolence motion on the demise of Kishta Reddy in the Legislative Assembly today.
Hailing the services of the deceased leader to his native Medak district and Telangana, she appealed to all parties to let one of his family members be elected from the constituency without a contest.
Congress MLA G Chinna Reddy said Kishta Reddy was an accomplished sugarcane farmer who achieved a record produce in his fields.
Kishta Reddy's elder son who is a local body representative could be a suitable candidate for the bye- election, date for which is yet to be announced, he said.
Another Congress member T Jeevan Reddy hoped that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would positively consider the request.
On the occasion, state Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy said Kishta Reddy was an 'Ajatashatru' (man without any foes).
Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao and other members hailed the services of Reddy (67), who died of a heart attack last month.
