CM Oommen Chandy to convene meet on Vizhinjam rehabilitation
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will convene a high-level meeting on September 30 to address the various concerns raised by the fishermen community against the rehabilitation package relating to the Vizhinjam port.
The decision was taken at a meeting of officials convened by Fisheries Minister K. Babu here on Tuesday.
The meeting will also take a final call on the new date of the inauguration of the construction of the Vizhinjam project. It is likely to be fixed for December 5.
The inauguration was postponed as local body elections was scheduled to be held in November. Meanwhile, the Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (VISL) has invited applications for an ‘independent engineer’ and auditor for the project.
The government had invited separate tenders for identifying chartered accountants and an independent engineer. The auditor will be selected from among the chartered accountants.
The last date for submitting the application for chartered accountant is October 14 and for the independent engineer October 21. The VISL will hold a pre-proposal meeting of interested firms on October 7 in Thiruvananthapuram to identify the firms.
