KOCHI: The meeting of heads of major churches in Kerala has expressed concern over the increasing trend of exploitation of workers in the corporate sector.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting here on Tuesday, Cardinal Mar George Alencherry said the “church is concerned about the trend” and that “the corporate sector focusing on profit alone is not good”.
The ecumenical meeting has also disapproved eviction of people in the name of development.
Nineteen senior priests belonging to Syro-Malabar Church, Syrian Orthodox Church (Jacobite) Orthodox Syrian Church, Latin Catholic Church, Church of South India and Marthoma Church met as part of strengthening joint efforts to tackle issues such as poverty, displacement of people and several other such issue. Cardinal Alencherry, however, declined to comment on the charges that the Christian medical colleges were getting undue advantage from the government.
“It is for the authorities and those making the allegations to sort out such issues. I don’t like to make any comment on such matters,” he said.
It also decided to hold a state-level one-day conference for the differently-abled persons in Ernakulam.
Various denominations will join hands to undertake ‘feed-the-needy’ currently practiced by individual church entities.
