Truck kills cop, hurts 3

The truck hit the barricades and overturned. One of the victims was crushed under the vehicle. Police arrested driver S. Yadi Reddy. The check post was set up to keep tabs on the transportation of animals to Hyderabad for Bakrid. The cops were asked to check if traders have certificates from vets.

J. Rahul Yadav, 23, a constable from the Golconda PS, was injured seriously as he got trapped under the truck. Three other constables, V. Veerender, Ch Pavan Kumar, and A. Saidulu, were rushed to hospitals. The condition of Veerender is critical, police said.

The incident occurred after 1 am. “I heard the sound of a truck hitting the barricades. Then came the sound of screeching tyres and the truck overturned,” said constable Vijay Kumar, who escaped.

The driver, Yadi Reddy, was working for SMR Holdings, a construction company. He escaped unharmed. A case was registered against him for causing death and injuries through negligence.

"He got drunk before loading the truck, and nobody from the company stopped him from driving," said a police official. Although the truck overturned the driver escaped without injuries. It was just another day for J. Balakrishna Yadav and family as son Rahul Yadav stepped out of their home at Sitaram Bagh in the evening saying that he had night duty at the check post. After the family slept they received a phone call shattering their world.

Balakrishna Yadav was inconsolable as the body of Rahul was handed over. “He was planning to take the SI test,” said one of his relatives. Rahul, from the 2014 batch of constables, joined the Golconda police station nine months ago. Family was also looking forward to his marriage next year.
