Marathi film 'Court' chosen as India's official entry to the Oscars
Hyderabad: Surpassing all expectations, Marathi film ‘Court,’ written and directed by debutant Chaitanya Tamhane, has been selected as the country’s official entry for the Oscars this year.
Announcing the decision on Wednesday, the Chairman of the selection jury appointed by Film Federation of India, Amol Palekar, said that the jury went through nearly 30 films across all Indian languages including the recent Telugu blockbusters ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Srimanthudu.
Explaining his choice, Palekar said "The film reflects the contemporary Indian society and has a great creative expression along with a good technical aspect."

The movie revolves around the trial of an old folk singer a lower court in Mumbai, shedding light on the Indian legal system and the various flaws and loopholes that it encompasses.
Expectations were rife that the epic Telugu drama ‘Baahubali’ may have a prominent chance in being selected.
Clarifying on the recent controversy, Palekar said that two of the 17 member jury had stepped down owing to technical reasons, and that it was the entire jury’s decision to select this Marathi film.
