Vijayawada: Committee inspects city’s working women’s hostel
Vijayawada: Chairperson of Legislative Committee of Welfare of Women, Children, Disabled and Old Aged, Meesala Geetha inspected the Kamala Nehru Working Women and Children hostel in the city and expressed dissatisfaction over hostel maintenance.
Ms Geetha, along with committee members TD MLA T. Soumya, YSR Congress MLA R.K. Roja, MLC B. Nageswara Rao and others, inspected the hostel near the Courts Complex with prior intimation to superintendents. The committee members also interacted with hostel inmates.
However, going through the hostel rooms, kitchen and open space Ms Geetha found poor sanitation facilities which cause inconvenience to the inmates.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, Ms Geetha said that the superintendents of the hostel have been negligent towards issues being faced by the inmates and no actions have been taken against the complaints filed. She added that the inmates were facing drinking water problem. “We shall take the issue to the notice of district collector in the review meeting and ensure necessary works are done immediately,” she assured.
Ms R.K. Roja said that the committee has been inspecting various women, child and disabled projects in the state and found poor facilities hounding many of them.
MLC B. Nageswara Rao said that there is an urgent need for providing pure drinking water for the working women and children and the committee would review the works frequently.
Earlier, the committee made a sudden visit to three Anganwadi centres in Chodavaram and Penamaluru.
