SPDCL plan to supply uninterrupted power

The officials have taken steps to replace old power lines in cyclone-prone villages

Ongole: The residents of cyclo-ne-prone villages in Prakasam district to get uninterrupted power supply during cyclones and heavy rains soon. The SPDCL decided to change old transformers, electrical poles, and power lines that were laid 60 years ago.

The officials have taken steps to replace old power lines in cyclone-prone villages at a cost of Rs 429 crore under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gramajyothi Yojana.

SPDCL Prakasam district superintending engineer K. Bhaskar prepared a DPR and sent it to the government for further action. As soon as they get nod from the government, they will take further action to lay new electrical line in place of old lines.

According to sources, the residents of Chirala, Kothapatnam, Vetapal-em, Chinna Ganjam, Tangutur, Ulavapadu and Ongole mandals are facing severe power cuts in cyclones and heavy rains due to weak power distribution system. There is need to strengthen the power distribution system.

In order to improve po-wer distribution system, there is need to set up new poles, and lay new power lines in cyclone-prone mandals and need to set up new sub-stations because the consumption is growing up.

The government has to give its nod to execute the works. After getting the nod, the higher officials will call tenders and start the work. Meanwhile, APSPDCL is now in a position to meet the demand.
