Kottayam: Even as the investigation into the murder of Sister Amala, 69, of the Lisieux Carmelite Convent at Pala is progressing, sources say that the police have taken the alleged accused into custody.
However, no official sources confirmed the custody and no further details have been released. The police are waiting to register the case after collecting evidence, said sources.
Sister Amala was found dead in her room on the third floor of the building with an injury above her right ear, on Thursday morning.
Kottayam district police chief Satheesh Bino while speaking to Deccan Chronicle said that the police were still continuing with the investigation and they could not reveal anything more.
“Disclosing any information at this stage will interfere with the progress of the probe”, he added. The police have retrieved a blood-stained spade from below the staircase in the convent. The spade has been sent to a forensic lab.
A police team comprising 40 police officials is conducting the investigations under the leadership of the Pala DySP B Suneesh Babu. A meeting of the investigation team was held at the Pala DySP office on Monday morning.
South Zone ADGP K Padmakumar earlier on Saturday visited the convent and said that the police had collected vital clues regarding the crime and that those who had perpetrated the act could be familiar with the convent and its environs.
