2 die unable to cope with withdrawal symptoms
Hyderabad: Two women died in Mahabubnagar district on Monday due to withdrawal symptoms of adulterated toddy. While one of them died at the hospital, the other committed suicide by setting herself ablaze.
Currently, more than 30 persons are undergoing treatment at Mahabubnagar hospital, suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
Due to the strict measures of Police and Excise departments, supply of adulterated toddy has come down in the district.
And those who were addicted to the liquor, are suffering from severe withdrawal symptoms and displaying abnormal behaviour.
Unable to withstand the withdrawal symptoms, Laxmamma (60), a resident of Gowrishankar colony in Mahabubnagar town, set herself ablaze on Monday.
"She poured kerosene and immolated herself. She suffered more than 80 per cent burn injuries. She succumbed while being shifted to the hospital," said Mahabubnagar Inspector Jangaiah.
In the second incident, Ms G. Venkatamma from Banda Mamidipalli of Jadcherla mandal, who had been admitted to the district hospital a few days ago, died on Monday while undergoing treatment for withdrawal.
