Indian film with an all-woman cast won an award at the Toronto International Film Festival

Director Pan Nalin’s ‘all-girl Indian buddy movie’ Angry Indian Goddesses, has won first runner-up at the 40th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) which concluded in Toronto, on Sunday.

The movie, about a group of friends, stars Tannishtha Chatterjee, Sandhya Mridul, Sarah Jane Dias, Anushka Manchanda, Amrit Maghera, Rajashri Deshpande and Pavleen Gujral. It provides an insight into the lives of urban Indian women in the midst of sexual assaults.

According to reports, a huge applause rang out at the venue when TIFF creative directive Cameron Bailey announced the movie as the first-runner up for the Grolsch People’s Choice Awards.

The story revolves around the gang of seven gathering for the wedding of a character, in Goa. That’s when they find out more about each other. But, here’s the twist, nobody knows who the groom-to-be-is. But during the course of time, something goes wrong and that is what forms the rest of the movie.
