Thiruvananthapuram railway division seeks exemption for select trains
The Palakkad division, however, has started implementing the new direction
Kochi: The Thiruvananthapuram Railway division authorities have delayed implementation of the ‘No sleeper tickets from counter’ decision as they have requested relaxation in terms of select trains.
“We’re studying the practical difficulty faced by short-distance commuters. We’ll request the Railway Board to exempt certain trains considering the travel needs and the possibility of overcrowding in general coaches,” said Sudheesh V.C., senior commercial Manager.
However, the official made it clear that the divisional authorities will implement the decision fully upon getting a clarification from the railway board. The Palakkad division, however, has started implementing the new direction.
Opposition leader V.S. Achutanandan has asked the Union railway minister and the railway board to review the measure. “It’s not practical to approach TTEs before the train resumes the journey as the halts will be for just few minutes”, he said. M.B. Rajesh MP told reporters in Palakkad that he will meet railway minister and request for the withdrawal of the decision. A fax message has already been sent to the minister and railway board officials, he added.
