Singer Radhika Thilak passes away at 45

She made her debut in playback singing with the film Sanghaganam
KOCHI: Famed singer Radhika Thilak (45) died at a private nursing home in Kochi on Sunday evening. She was undergoing treatment for cancer for the past one-and-a-half years and was suddenly hospitalized following fever. As she had infection she was admitted to the intensive care unit and her condition deteriorated there leading to her demise.
Radhika is survived by husband Suresh Krishna and daughter Devika, a student of law. Daughter of Thilak and the late Girija Devi, Radhika came to the world of singing through the light music programmes of All India Radio.
She made her debut in playback singing with the film Sanghaganam. A versatile artist Radhika had enriched the music lovers with nearly 70 film songs and over 200 light music songs.
She was also active in stage shows. Some of the famous songs of Radhika include Manjakiliyude in film Kanmadam, Mayamanjalil in Ottyal Pattalam and Manasil Midhunamazha in Nandanam.
The death of Radhika came as shock to the music fraternity in the state. Music composer Ignatius said that she is known to him since her
college days.
“I used to give music classes to a group of students from St. Teresa’s College including Radhika. It is so sad that she departed the world at a young age”, he said.
“The death is an irreparable loss to the music world”, film director Rajasenan said. Singer MG Sreekumar said Radhika Thilak had all the potential to be one of the top singers along with Chithra and Sujatha.
The cremation of Radhika, resident of Arwin Rosedale Apartments in Panampilly Nagar, is scheduled for Monday.
