Washington: A mother’s way of disciplining her son is rocking the Internet. With over 85,000 likes and 1,60,000 shares, the angry letter written by one Estella Havisham— who uses this name to conceal her identity as she’s a survivor of domestic violence—has got mixed response from parents all over the world.

Estella’s son, 13-year-old Aaron, annoyed his mother by “refusing to be controlled” and “treating her as a doormat”. Aaron even  claims that he can fund himself as he now makes money.

Fed up with her son’s disregard for her rules, Estella wrote a letter and posted it on Facebook. She wrote, “Since you seem to have forgotten that you are only 13 and I’m the parent, and that you won’t be controlled, I guess you will need to learn a lesson in independence. Also, as you threw in my face that you are making money now, it will be easier to buy back all the items I bought for you in the past.”

Estella further asked Aaron to share the expenses incurred on house rent, electricity, internet and food. She also asks him to clear the trash and clean the house thrice week failing which he has to pay an extra $30 per day.

Estella, says it was only to humiliate him in front of her friends and family. But, to her surprise, the post soon went viral with some appreciating her while others criticising her for being “too tough”.

The overwhelming reaction forced Estella to come up with another post explaining her move. “Let’s get serious! I am not going to put my 13-year-old on the street if he can’t pay his half of the rent. I wrote him a ‘bill’ to make a point. Nothing comes free.” She said Aaron has started taking her seriously after the post.
