Tug of war between MGU VC Dr Babu Sebastian and Pro-VC Dr Sheena Shukkoor
Kottayam: MG University Vice-Chancellor Dr Babu Sebastian on Saturday alleged that he was facing threats from some Indian Union Muslim League syndicate members in connection with the inquiry into the authenticity of the doctorate of Pro-VC Dr Sheena Shukkoor.
Dr Sebastian stated this to reporters after nine members of the syndicate led by Dr Sheena Shukkoor sent a complaint to the Governor that the VC was taking decisions without discussing with them.
They also staged a sit-in in the syndicate hall protesting against the decisions of the VC, including his latest on postponing the syndicate meeting scheduled for Saturday without consulting or previously intimating them.
“We in our petition to the Governor said that the VC is exercising the provision of 10/17 which is the emergency power vested with the VC in the absence of the convening the syndicate. Moreover, regarding the cancellation of the syndicate meeting, he never informed us in advance. We urged the Governor to take action against the VC’s decision,” Prof Abdul Latif, a syndicate member, said.
