Torture by higher-ups killed her: Batchmate

R.Vishnupriya was found hanging from the bedroom of her official quarters on Friday
Salem: The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday ordered a CB-CID probe into the suicide of young police officer and Tiruchengode DSP, R. Vishnupriya, but her grieving father demanded a CBI probe into her sudden death, alleging that the state police would not conduct a fair and objective investigation.
The 26-year-old woman officer, R.Vishnupriya, who had investigated the caste-sensitive case of the murder of Dalit youth Gokul Raj in Tiruchengode, was found hanging from the bedroom of her official quarters on Friday. Meanwhile, her close friend and Keezhakarai DSP Maheswari kicked off a storm, squarely blaming the pressure and torture from higher officials in the murder of the Dalit youth for Vishnupriya’s suicide. “Everyone knows that Vishnupriya was honest. But higher officials think we are all tax collecting agents,” said the sobbing Maheswari, causing a major embarrassment to the higher rungs of the Tamil Nadu police force.
But the suicide note purportedly left by Vishnupriya claimed that her death should not be politicised and linked to the investigation into the murder of the Dalit youth.
Suicide note tampered?
With police higher officials facing flak for the suicide of R.Vishnupriya, the Namakkal police released the suicide note left by the DSP to clear the air. However, the suicide note has raised more disturbing questions rather than offering convincing answers, says DSP’s grieving father Ravi. “They said the suicide note runs to 15 pages. But they have released only nine pages. I suspect they have tampered with the suicide note. For, the handwriting in the first seven pages is my daughter’s. But the handwriting in the last two pages don’t appear to be her handwriting. Besides she has written entirely in English language and script in the last two pages raise doubts,” Ravi told DC.
The first seven pages of the suicide note have been numbered and have been written in English script but the words are Tamil. In the first seven pages, she has profoundly apologised for committing suicide to her father, mother, sister and father’s brother and his wife. But strangely nowhere has the cause for the suicide been mentioned. She however, said that her suicide should not be politicised or linked to the investigation into the murder of Dalit youth Gokul Raj. Curiously, the last two pages which carries the date September 18, have all been written in English words and script. However, the handwriting appears quite different from the first seven pages.
“As all say I may not be fit for the department. So, I don’t want to waste time as well others,” said the suicide note. Also it said this was her third suicide attempt.
In the note, she appealed to her mother not to make an issue of her suicide and quietly receive her body after post-mortem. She also apologised to the police officer for taking the extreme step. “Sorry for all the police offers and friends of police. I think I have left a lot of dust for you to clear.” Indeed, the suicide note has kicked up quite a whirl of dust.
