Telangana Assembly to be stormy
Hyderabad: With the Monsoon Session of the Telangana Legislature scheduled to begin on September 23, the TRS is gearing up to face the Opposition’s onslaught.
Sources said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked ministers to be prepared with data to counter Opposition charges on farmers’ suicides.
He has directed them to point out that the Congress and TD, when in power, did not take up irrigation, power and other projects in TS, and had not created marketing facilities for farmers’ produce.
The Opposition has a lot of ammunition against the government, starting from the defection of legislators from the Congress and the TD to the TRS, including commercial taxes minister T. Srinivas Yadav.
There is also the incident of TRS legislator G. Balaraju slapping Congress MLA Rammohan Reddy, the abortive bid to launch cheap liquor and the CM’s move to change the design of the Pranahita-Chevella and other irrigation schemes.
The number of suicides by farmers, which the government says is 400 while the Opposition pegs it at 1,400, will also come in handy for the Opposition.
Mr Rao instructed ministers to hit back at allegations saying that it was a new government and needed time to undo the damage done. “We are ready to debate. Opposition must participate in debate and give constructive suggestions,” said TRS MLC K. Prabhakar.
