Power situation will improve once cane crushing season begins: DK Shivakumar
He stressed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah never interfered with the energy department
Bengaluru: Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday said that the power situation will improve once the sugarcane crushing season commences in the state.
Speaking to reporters at the KPCC office, he said, “The only solution left before us is to expect the rain god to shower His blessings on us, or to hope for the sugarcane crushing season begins soon. Until then, the situation in the state can only depend on the purchase of power from private companies.”
He stressed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah never interfered with the energy department and had allocated Rs 7,200 crore to purchase power and to carry out various projects taken up by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd.
“There is no shortage of money to procure power, but as we don’t have an exclusive power corridor allotted to us by the central government, we can’t purchase power from outside,” he said.
