Pothole cover up: Speeding, say cops
The Old Airport traffic police have booked a case of causing death by negligence and rash riding
Bengaluru: The post mortem report of Stuthi Prakash who died in a road accident on Thursday night has revealed that she died after her lungs were punctured by broken ribs.
“We initially took up an unnatural death case (UDR) in the Devarbisinahalli pothole accident case after taking statements from the victim’s husband Om Prakash who was riding the bike at the time of the accident. But after the post-mortem results revealed that the victim had died of fractured ribs that had punctured her lungs causing her death, we booked a case of speeding against him,” said an investigating officer from the Old Airport traffic police station.
He added that if the vehicle had not traveled at a high speed, injuries like these would not have occurred. It is very rare, and that is the reason for booking the husband/rider for negligent riding, the officer added. It also needs to be investigated if the weight of the pillion rider falling off the bike had caused those types of injuries, said the officer. The Old Airport traffic police have booked a case of causing death by negligence and rash riding on a public way on Om Prakash.
“It’s a routine legal procedure that if a pillion rider dies in a two-wheeler accident where there are no other vehicles involved, the rider will be booked for negligence. Later the investigation by the police will reveal if it was due to negligence of the rider or due to other reasons,” said M.A. Saleem Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
