Over 16,000 registrations on World Marrow Donor Day

Highest ever recorded in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: On the occasion of World Marrow Donor Day on Saturday, Datri Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry announced that it received more than 16,000 registrations, which is the highest ever recorded in Tamil Nadu.

Datri Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry, a Chennai-based non-profit organisation for blood stem cell donation and India's largest blood stem cell donors registry, said that it had crossed the 1,00,000 voluntary blood stem cell donors registrations. This implies that now there are more than one lakh adult unrelated blood stem donors registered with Datri, who can help save precious lives of patients suffering from fatal blood disorders like Thalassemia, Leukaemia and other blood-related disorders.

"It is indeed a proud moment for us to have reached this milestone. Each donor is unique and can probably match only one patient in the world, pressing the need for more voluntary donors to register and help patients in need of a blood stem cell transplant. We have now crossed 1,00,000 registrations and have facilitated more than 119 transplants, thanks to our donors who have come forward to gift a life," said Raghu Rajagopal, CEO and co-founder, Datri.

Meanwhile, Datri organised a slow cycle rally from Ticel Bio Park, Taramani, here.Participants addressed a small gathering of blood cancer and Thalassemia patients admitted at the Apollo Cancer Specialty Hospital and Voluntary Health Services.
