MK Stalin luring MDMK district secys: Vaiko
Party meets after top leaders quit
Chennai: MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Saturday accused DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin of luring his party’s district secretaries even while trying to create a conducive atmosphere for talks.
“We strongly decided against aligning with DMK because they try to create a conducive atmosphere for holding talks while conspiring to lure district secretaries if we do not agree for alliance. Stalin was involved in this conspiracy for over a month. When I came to know of it, we decided not to align with DMK or AIADMK to safeguard the party,” Vaiko told reporters after chairing his party’s emergency high-level committee meeting in the wake of resignation of senior party leaders.
MDMK treasurer R. Masilamani and women wing’s secretary Kumari Vijayakumar and three district secretaries quit the party opposing Vaiko’s decision not to align with Dravidian parties and to face the Assembly elections as part of People’s Welfare Front.
Vaiko said he made the alliance announcement at the party’s Tirupur conference on September 15 based on the decision taken at the high level committee and district secretaries meeting on September 7 here.
He denied an allegation that he had gone back on the decision of aligning with DMK after assuring party leaders. “I had never said anything about alliance with DMK. We had decided to take a call on alliance close to the run up to the election. This was decided before formation of People’s Welfare Front,” he said.
