Medical college admission row in Kerala High Court
Thiruvananthapuram: The High Court would consider the arguments of the Advisory Supervisory Committee (ASC) headed by Justice J. M. James on admissions to MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna, on Tuesday.
The MES management argued in the court that the management conducted the admissions as per the norms. Earlier, the ASC submitted before the High Court that MES Medical College made admissions to MBBS courses this year violating all norms.
The ASC which refused to approve admissions to 61 seats for MBBS made by the management of MES Medical College had informed this to the High Court.
The committee found that merit was not considered while making the admissions. As a result, many high-ranking students did not get admissions while lower-ranked students were admitted.
Moreover, the advertisements for the admissions were issued only in local news dailies published from Kozhikode. This was done even as the prospectus of the MES Medical College had made clear that there was reservation for students belonging to Malappuram district, the committee found.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) extended the last date to join in the allotted seats in MBBS and BDS courses in Medical and Dental colleges through special allotment has been extended to 5 pm on Sunday. The CEE has asked colleges to work on Sunday so that the candidates could complete their admission process.
