CPM silent on TP51, RMP upset

Kerala Coir authorities said the audience received the film well
KOZHIKODE: Screening of TP 51, a film on the life and brutal killing of dissident leader TP Chandrasekharan, is progressing peacefully in Malabar despite fears of reprisal.
It was received well in the CPM stronghold of Vadakara where the slain leader revolted against the party and established his Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP).
Director Moidu Thaz-hath said the film had successfully run into the second week, and the screenings were houseful at Kerala Coir where the cinema’s owner initially withdrew under threat.
“As there’s only one show, many returned disappointed, not being able to watch the film,” he said. “Police protection and the support of disgruntled CPM workers helped us”.
However, the RMP is not happy as TP’s “ideological fire” was missing in the film.
“It’s a so-so a movie. We expected a better portrayal of the firebrand leader,” said P.M. Suresh, a worker of the breakaway party.
Kerala Coir authorities said the audience received the film well. “The shows were houseful for the last two days,” they said.
The CPM meanwhile maintains a studied silence. They decided to neglect the film.
“A section of the media fell for the ploy of the director who wanted to create a sympathy wave in the name of CPM blockade,” its district secretary P. Mohanan told DC. “We have many other serious things to do.”
