Town planning panel approves Kozhikode City Master Plan
KOZHIKODE: The Joint Town Planning Committee meeting held on Friday approved the draft of the Kozhikode City Master Plan prepared by the Regional Town Planning office.
The draft will now be sent to the state government for permission to notify. The meeting marked the culmination of over 15 rounds of discussions conducted by the Regional Town Planning office to gauge the opinion of different stakeholders of the City about the draft plan. Kozhikode Municipal Corporation Mayor Prof A.K. Premajam chaired the meeting.
The draft plan envisaged for the overall development of the City during the next 20 years has projects for new roads, widening of existing roads, bus terminals etc.
Transport via waterways is an important project in the draft master plan. The draft proposes a new bus terminal outside the CBD (Central Business district) and implementation of effective bus routes and circular services.
A transit hub at Malapparamba, parking plazas at major nodes, dedicated truck lines and high speed bus lines are the other suggestions proposed in the draft master plan by the Regional Town Planning Office.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Regional Town Planner K.V. Abdul Malik said that the draft would be submitted to the state government for the permission to issue notification.
“Once we get government nod, we will give two months time for public to air their suggestions and opinions and the final master plan will be submitted to the government after getting public opinion. The government will then issue a gazette notification which means the master plan has come into force,” he said. The Master plan is for a period of 20 years from 2015 to 2035.
