Kottayam: The police have not made any breakthrough in the probe into the murder of Sister Amala, 69, a nun with the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel (CMC) at Jayamatha Province’s Lisieux convent at Pala on Thursday.
They rejected the alleged confession of a person belonging to Kumarakom that he had committed the murder. He was found to be mentally unstable, said police sources.
It is learnt that a 72-year-old nun had been attacked by an unidentified assailant two days back. The nun, who is suffering from loss of memory, could not confirm whether her wound was due to the attack.
One of the inmates of the convent, Sister Julia, revealed that she had seen a stranger on the second floor of the convent around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday night.
It was on Thursday morning that Sister Amala was found dead in a pool of blood in her room on the third floor in the convent.
District police chief Satheesh Bino told DC that the police were examining various angles.
The body of the nun was brought to the Carmel medical centre at Pala, where she served as a nurse for many years, on Friday evening.
The funeral will be held at the St Jude Church, Kizhakkethadiyur, by 10 a.m. on Saturday, convent sources said.
