Stated death was due to hanging, SP denies allegations of harassment
Hyderabad: Medical examination of the body of sub inspector R. Ramesh, who was found hanging from a tree branch in Tandur Wednesday, has ruled out the possibility of murder. This, while a hartal was observed in his native place Devarakonda in Nalgonda district by locals seeking an impartial probe into the death.
Police said Ramesh appeared to have ended his life Tuesday night. Forensic experts of Osmania General Hospital who conducted the postmortem said there was no external or internal injury to the body. They ruled out murder and confirmed it was a suicide.
Rangareddy district SP M.Srinivas said personal issues appear to have led to the suicide, and there was no harassment by his superiors as was alleged by his family. With the intervention of state home minister N.Narasimha Reddy, the case has been transferred to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) for a detailed probe.
The family members had alleged that Ramesh, who was SI of Yalal police station, was either murdered or was compelled to commit suicide because of harassment from his superiors. Locals blocked the roads in Tandur, as also the convoy of TS minister Patnam Mahender Reddy.
It was following their demand that the body was taken to OGH from the Tandur mortuary, where it was originally kept for postmortem. Police officials, who verified his mobile phone, said Ramesh had only sent two messages to his wife and another constable. In the message to the constable, he had mentioned the place name where he was ending his life. To his wife, he pleaded forgiveness.
